Competition Rules 2025

NOTE: If a number of teams are level on points, the following shall apply and a draw from the hat will ​determine positions if the following can’t decide positions.


Where two (2) teams finish with equal points in determining positions, the placings shall be decided by the ​following means and in the order specified as below 1 – 4.


1)

The outcome of the game played between the two teams in the competition. (Head to Head)


2)

Total Score. All scores equal 1 score. E.g. 1 goal = 1 score, 1 point =1 score. 2-12 = 14 scores

The scores of all teams that give a walkover during the group stages are disregarded in determining Total Score.


3)

Score difference E.g. Total points for – Total points against, where a goal = 3 points

The scores of all teams that give a walkover during the group stages are disregarded in determining score ​difference


4)

Should the above three options fail to separate the teams there shall be a Toss of a Coin or Drawn from a Hat. No ​team can be eliminated from a competition by this method


Where three (3) teams finish with equal points in determining positions, the placings shall be decided by the ​following means and in the order specified as below 5-7.


5)

Where 1 team has beaten the other 2 teams they get higher position.


6)

Score difference E.g., Total points for – Total points against, where a goal = 3 points

The scores of all teams that give a walkover during the group stages are disregarded in determining score ​difference.


7)

Should the above option fail to separate the teams there shall be a Toss of a Coin or Drawn from a Hat. No team ​can be eliminated from a completion by this method.


Where four (4) teams or more finish with equal points in determining positions, the placings shall be decided ​by the following means and in the order specified as below 8.

Score difference E.g., Total points for – Total points against, where a goal = 3 points The scores of all teams that give ​a walkover during the group stages are disregarded in determining score difference.


9)

Extra time to be played in all quarter finals, semi-finals, shield finals and finals in 2024 in Championships and ​Shields. (Adult Championship finals will go to a replay if still level after extra time). As per Rule 366, ALL knockout ​games will be result on the day.


Rule 366


“In exceptional circumstances, the Organising Committee, Board or Council may instruct teams to play One ​Period of Extra Time followed by a point shoot-out from 25 metres. The kicks must be taken between the two posts ​and from where indicated by the referee. In the case of Under 14 competitions and below, the point shoot-out ​shall be from the 20 metre line.


Only players who are remaining on the field of play at the end of Extra Time are eligible to take the kicks. Each ​team shall take 5 kicks at point scoring. If the scores are still tied after each team has taken their 5 kicks, sudden ​death procedure shall follow, using different players, until such time as there is a winner.


The ball must go directly over the crossbar, off the crossbar and over, or off the uprights and over the crossbar, to ​be counted as a point.


A ball that hops in front of the goal and goes over the bar shall not be counted as a point.


Any player that crosses the 20/25m mark while kicking for a point shall have her score disallowed.


The referee shall add the points scored by both teams in the shoot-out to the scores at the end of Extra Time in ​reporting the final score.


Extra Time shall consist of 10 minutes each way.


*This is in both Adult and Underage


10)

When a team gives a walkover in a competition, the club may be fined €50 for the first walkover and may be fined ​€100 for the second and subsequent walkovers by the county board.


11)

Where the Championship is played as one group the semi-final pairings shall be 1 v 4, 2 v 3. Where there are two ​groups the winner of group 1 will play the runner up of group 2 and the winner of group 2 will play the runner up of ​group 1.


12)

When a team can’t fulfil a fixture due to Covid 19, that team must forfeit the game.


13)

All clubs seeking permission to record a game must seek permission from the County Secretary at least 48hrs ​before the game. The application to record the game must show the person/company who will be responsible for ​recording the game.


14)

If a game is called off or abandoned and clubs can't agree re-fixture within 48hrs. The Fixture Committee will re-fix ​the game withing 48hrs and clubs mush comply


15)

In the infrequent event that there is a Status Orange weather warning or

above in place, all games scheduled for the timing of the warning be

postponed.


16)

Games, in particular underage games, be fixed for the same day every week as is the

current practice in Camogie & Cóiste na nÓg, for example U-10 games always on a

Monday, U-12 games always on a Tuesday as much as possible.


17)

Default times for games shall be as follows if clubs can’t agree

Saturday 7.00pm in months May to August, 3pm in other month, adults only

Sunday 7.00pm in months May to August, 3pm in other month, adults only


18)

Fixtures set the day & time of all championship fixtures and this can only be changed

if both teams and fixtures committee are in agreement.

Fixtures Guidelines 2025

1)

Three points are awarded for a win and one point for a draw.


2)

If a team is disqualified or retires during the course of the competition, it’s played games shall stand and their un-​played games shall be awarded to the opposing team(s). The scores of all teams that give a walkover during the ​group stages are disregarded in determining score difference



3)

Games must be played within the parameters set out below. Failure to fulfil a fixture will result in the loss of points ​for the cancelling club.


4)

*The Fixtures Committee will only communicate with the club secretary or the nominated club fixture person.


ALL FIXTURES: IF THE FIXTURES COMMITTEE HAS NOT HEARD FROM BOTH CLUBS (AND MORE ​PARTICULARLY THE HOME CLUB) WITHIN 14 DAYS OF THE SCHEDULED GAME, IT WILL ASSUME THE GAME IS ​GOING AHEAD ON THE SCHEDULED DATE, THE REFEREE AND GATE PEOPLE WILL BE INFORMED OF SAME.



5)

The Fixtures Committee in an emergency situation or the Referee who may deem conditions unsuitable for play, ​are the ONLY people who have the authority to postpone a fixture outside of a County Board meeting.


6)

Where a Clubs home pitch is not available on the date the game is fixed, they must:


A: Secure an alternative pitch.


B: Play the game in the opposing teams pitch.


7)

The Home Club must arrange a Neutral Referee for all Underage and Adult League round games. The Referee ​must be listed in the list of referees sent out by County Secretary and if not, the club must have written ​approval of the County Board.


· The County Board or the Fixtures Committee will arrange Referees for Senior, Intermediate, Junior A, Junior B and ​Junior C championship games, Quarter finals, Semi-Finals and Finals.


· The County Board or the Fixtures Committee will arrange Referees for underage knockout games, Quarter finals, ​Semi-Finals and Finals.


8)

The Referee fee is for games of 30 mins per half and is to be paid BEFORE commencement of the game are as ​follows.

· Adult Championship games €25 per team.

· Adult League games €20 per team.

· The fee for U12, U14, U16 and U18 games is €20 per team.


· U12 games (details below) are 12 minutes a quarter.


9)

At U12 level, games must be played as in rules sent out by County Board format on the basis that participating ​teams should be a maximum of 13 aside. Games should be organised over four quarters and provision shall be ​made for all members of the team panel to participate in a minimum of one quarter.


10)

Number of Players allowed in all Games



· Adult Championship (Senior, Intermediate, Junior A and Junior B) is 15 a side, Junior C is 13 a side competition


· Adult League All Divisions - 15 aside. However, if one of the teams has only 13 or 14 players in attendance the game ​is then 13 or 14 aside.


· U18, U16, U14 – 15 aside. However, if one of the teams has only 13 or 14 players in attendance the game is then 13 or ​14 aside. (See below regarding U18, U16 and U14 Lowest Division)


· A team can start a game if they have 11 players.



· In U18, U16 and U14 the lowest division is a 13 a side competition


11)

All Knock out games (Quarter Finals/Semi Finals and Finals) of all competitions revert back to 15 aside, except ​Junior C Championship and U12 which is a 13 aside competition. However the lowest division in each of the ​following underage grades U18, U16 and U14 will remain all the way to the finals as 13 a side games.


12)

The Result of the Game and the Name of the Referee must be texted by the Home Club before 6.00pm the ​following evening, to the relevant Fixture contact for the Grade of the Game played as listed herewith.


All matches where a programme is provided (e.g. All Finals, Adult Championship Semi Finals) the player’s number ​must correspond to match programme. Also, a team list and substitute slips is to be given to referee in finals.


NOTE: The Referee’s Report and Team Lists must reach the Fixture Secretary within 3 Postal Days.
